Amaran is an upcoming Tamil-language biographical action war film directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, with Sony Pictures Films India. The film features Sivakarthikeyan as Major Turn Mukund Varadarajan, Aman Gill and Ragul Bose; with Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora in the lead roles while Lallu Veerkiran plays off Shreekumar playing a Bindi role.

It is based on the eponymous book series India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which has a chapter titled The Man Who Never Died On His Birthday related to Mukund.  The movie was officially announced in January 2022 with the working title of Sivakarthikeyan 21 (his 21st film as a lead actor) and confirmed its final name on February that year. 

Filming Principal photography commenced in May 2023 on a sporadic schedule at Kashmir where scenes were shot followed by shootouts held at Chennai, was again succeeded with the next shooting schedules which took place, before being put to hold due to breakup between lead pair filming continued after a gap of three months in April it started afresh and completed for an year.

The movie has music scored by G. V. Prakash Kumar, Cinematography managed through CH Sai and enhancing utilizing R. Kalaivanan.  Amaran to be released worldwide on 31st of October of the year 2024 ie Diwali The movie is also set to debut in premium large formats when it opens.

Amaran Movie Production

Sivakarthikeyan is expected to play the role of late Major Mukund Varadarajan in his biopic titled Amaran.

Rajkumar Periyasamy workes his third project with International production. 2017 after Rangoon release. It was also going to be produced by Kamal Haasan, the second collaboration of him with GN after having worked together in a reality show hosted by Haasan.

However, the director got interested in the story when he was recommended by Vakil Khan to read a chapter from India’s Most Fearless series books by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh on Major Mukund Varadarajan.

Khan advised him to film a biographical movie about the Major, and he would obtain rights of the book from Sony Pictures Films India will procure sole theatrical feature adaptation geographical distribution rights (and fund) venture. Accepting Rajkumar’s plea of putting their venture on pause, Haasan then asked if they could co-finance the biography with Sony Pictures Films India.

Sivakarthikeyan was cast to play Mukund Varadarajan in late December 2021. The actor and Rajkumar had worked together even before turning to the film industry for private Tamil channels, a number of projects & shows. In January the next year, Haasan announced about the movie in hosting Finale of Bigg Boss : Season 5.

The actor’s Raaj Kamal Films International, which has tied up with Sony Pictures for this flick also released an official statement about the venture on 15 January including some working stills confirming that it will carry a ‘tag’ of SK21 (or is it Production No. 51–Raaj Kamal). The official title of the film, Amaran was announced on 16 February 2024, coinciding with Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday eve after Rajkumar took permission from original makers of same-namedfilm which released in (1992).

Some weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, a family of that Varadarajan,. whom Rajkumar visited and information knows about which life. Rajkumar and Haasan first searched for a debut to play the role of Varadarajan. Until, Mahendran Raaj Kamal Films International’s co-header adviced Sivakarthikeyan to play him. 

Rajkumar then conveyed it to Hasan that he can make a move and Haasan approved. He wrote the film’s script with Stefan Ritcher. On 5 May, exactly a month after Varadarajan’s demise vas blessed by Siddhar and in his presence the muhurat puja took place at Raaj Kamal Films International office along with the film cast & crew as well as Indhu Rebecca Varghese (wife of late Varadarajan) including their daughter. But, the fact that they were not disclosed in puja was to keep it under wraps as film is a biopic on Major.

G. V. Prakash Kumar was signed to compose the music, making his first collaboration with Periyasamy. He is being backed by production designer Rajeevan, cinematographer CH Sai and editor R. Kalaivanan while Anbariv will be take care of the stunts along with his better half dance choreography has been done by Sherif hire for fire stunt fight sequence in climax portion A few other crew members have also come on board including costume designers Amritha Ram, Sameera Saneesh Along With V.Sai

Amaran Movie Casting

Sivakarthikeyan went through rigorous training for nearly a year prior to production for his role as Mukund Varadarajan and was instructed not to reveal his hairstyle in public, concealing it under a beanie until the release of first look poster. “: RajkumarKirti said the actor had even done a workshop in Mumbai to change his body-language from soft-spoken civilian to that of an Army officer.

It marks pitted Sai Pallavi against Sivakarthikeyan, in her maiden win with the actor. She will be playing the role of Mukund’s wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese and been paid a remuneration ₹3 crore. Bhuvan Arora, a Bollywood actor was selected to play the role of Sepoy Vikram Singh (Mukund’s colleague) in his first Tamil movie. It was his tribute to his armyman father, he said. Rahul Bose as well got confirmed in the cast but Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman and Gaurav Venkatesh.

Filming and post-production

The first schedule commenced on 5 May 2023 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir for the start of principal photography. This caused the filming to be temporarily delayed for G20 summit and security resons. Production then restarted by 22 May. The shooting of Ayalaan was wrapped up last year in March Sivakarthikeyan had returned to Chennai from Kiev (Ukraine) back on May 22nd. Filming resumed on 7 June following a short break. Shooting was halted on 15 July. The 75-day schedule had put an end on August 27.

The second schedule started on October 21 in a never used before Film City located at Chennai for shooting the combined song of Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. On 9 November, production shifted to Pondicherry. For the major portions set in his younger days, Sivakarthikeyan had gone clean-shaven around mid-December. Speaking to Ananda Vikatan in February 2024, Rajkumar confirmed that the shoot was about to be wrapped up with just minor portions of Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi left.

After a month well-deserved break, the unit restarted its final stint on 26th April’24 with major scenes of Major Mukund and Sepoy Vikram being martyred during Qazipathri Operation (Shopian Encounter), having Anbariv stunt duo. Production concluded 25 May 2024 Unifi Media worked on the special effects for this film.

G V Prakash Kumar … First time Working With Siva Karthikeyan And Rajkumar for Soundtrack The audio was bought by Saregama. Jen Martin worked in the Music- muhurat puja video (5 May 2023 Date of Release ) Singers Jen Martin, Sathya Narayanan and Madhuvanthy Ganesh along with Ramani have performed the song whereas lyrics are written by Vishnu Edavan

Rajkumar revealed the film has few dance numbers which are high-speed oriented dances. In June Mid, Prakash also unveiled that the song was completed almost of movie. The first single “Hey Minnale” was released on 4 October. The next single “Vennilavu Saaral” was released on 17 October. The audio launch was held on 18 October 2024 at Shriram Engineering College, Chennai.

Amaran Movie Release Date 

The film Amaran scheduled to be released theatrically on 31 October 2024. A similar Diwali release also clashed with Brother and Bloody Beggar. After blurring some gory images, muting a few languages and rectifying the map to be shown in their film, Uri: The Surgical Strike has been certified with a UA certificate by Central Board of Film Certification. Prepare to release in Tamil, Telugu (dubbed version), Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada apart from the original language.

The film was earlier set to hit the screens on 15 August, Independence Day. However, it was later said to have the Revised yearbook rescheduled for September 27th before being pushed back again up until its current date. A special screening was organised at New Delhi on October 24, for the army officials along with their families.

Amaran Movie Distribution

The Tamil Nadu distribution rights were acquired by Red Giant Movies while Sreshth Movies took the same for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film’s overseas distribution rights are owned by Home Screen Entertainment.

Amaran Movie Controversy

On 21 February 2024, members from the Tamilaga Makkal Jananayaga Katchi (TMJK) protested in Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Vellore and Cuddalore for portraying Muslims “in a bad light”, after its promotional teaser was released on Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday as well called for a haltto release.
