Kentucky Wildcats News: Collin Chandler opens up about leaving UK
Despite his love for Kentucky and Mark Pope, Chandler decided returning home to Utah was the right move.

Good morning, BBN!
Collin Chandler found himself at the center of social media on Friday after a clip from a BYU podcast made the rounds, with many Kentucky fans believing the former Wildcat took a shot at the program.
In the viral clip, Chandler said he wanted to be part of “a program that cares about their athletics” and praised the passion surrounding BYU basketball.
Without context, the comments sparked criticism from Kentucky fans. However, Chandler quickly clarified on social media that he was referring to his original high school recruitment and commitment to BYU—not his decision to transfer away from Kentucky this spring.
The full interview paints a much different picture.
Chandler said he refused to entertain transfer discussions until Kentucky’s season ended, believing he owed that respect to Mark Pope, his teammates, and the program after everything they had invested together.
Once the season concluded, he and his wife, Hannah, spent time praying, talking with family, and ultimately decided returning home to Utah was the right move.
Chandler also defended Hannah, who has received criticism from fans who assumed she pushed for the transfer. He emphasized the decision was mutual and rooted in what they believed was best for their family, not outside pressure.
It was a great conversation with a kid that Kentucky fans should always support! Watch the full interview here:
