The 2026 Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday, June 29, at the All England Club in London, with defending champions Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek returning to defend their singles titles. The tournament will run until July 12 and feature some of the biggest names in tennis, including Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina and Serena Williams.

Defending champions return to Centre Court

Sinner enters the tournament as the reigning men’s singles champion after defeating Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in four sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4) in last year’s final. Swiatek, meanwhile, begins her title defence after a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova in the 2025 women’s final.

The Italian will open his campaign against Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic on Monday, while Swiatek faces American Taylor Townsend in the first round on Tuesday.

Djokovic chases Grand Slam history

Novak Djokovic will once again be among the favourites as he bids to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles. Victory in London would also hand the Serbian a record-extending 25th Grand Slam singles title.

With Carlos Alcaraz ruled out due to a right wrist injury, Germany’s Alexander Zverev is expected to be one of the leading contenders after his impressive run at the French Open earlier this month.

Sabalenka, Rybakina headline women’s title race

Apart from Swiatek, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina are among the strongest contenders for the women’s singles title. Both players have proven credentials on grass and are expected to provide stiff competition throughout the fortnight.

Serena Williams makes stunning Wimbledon comeback

One of the biggest storylines of Wimbledon 2026 is the return of Serena Williams. The 44-year-old, who stepped away from professional tennis following the 2022 US Open, has received a wildcard entry into both the women’s singles and doubles draws.

Serena will begin her singles campaign against Australia’s Maya Joint before partnering sister Venus Williams in the doubles event. The legendary duo will take on Argentina’s Solana Sierra and Colombia’s Camila Osorio in the opening round.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Serena said she still expects to feel the same nerves she experienced throughout her career.

“I hope to be nervous, but then I’ll just shake them off and move on. I’ve been nervous in every match I’ve played in my life. I think that shows the passion, love and care I have for the sport,” she said.

Wimbledon 2026 schedule

The tournament begins on June 29, with the women’s singles final scheduled for July 11 and the men’s singles final on July 12.

All matches will begin at 3:30 pm IST (11:00 am local time).
